It goes without saying but we'll mention it any way
SELECT YOUR FINISHING MATERIAL
- Check for required clearances on the size of fire pit you want - clearances from the house, fence, property line, overhanging trees, etc
- Determine if you'll use LP gas (bottled gas) or Natural Gas (city gas). If your house has Natural Gas service then this is almost a no-brainer for larger gas fire pits. Natural gas is a fraction of the cost of LP gas; the flame is taller and burns cleaner. Any costs involved in running the natural gas line to your fire pit will be offset by reduced gas costs over the years you will be enjoying it
- Are you doing any part of the installation yourself? What parts of the project do you need to hire out? Locally we have some good resources for you to install a patio, outdoor room, outdoor kitchen
THERE'S REALLY NO NEED TO REINVENT THE WHEEL!
Start with a ready-to-finish system! Available in multiple shapes and sizes, and with the perfect burner size and shapes already designed for you
DECIDE WHAT SHAPE AND SIZE YOU WANT
The enclosure, or fire pit shell, is what contains the fire pit insert - the gas burner and whatever media you will want to use
The enclosure, or fire pit shell, is what contains the fire pit insert - the gas burner and whatever media you will want to use
In addition to required clearances from nearby combustibles, plan on AT LEAST 4' around the edge - and preferably 6' - for seating and to walk around it
Plan how to finish the outside: stone, bricks, landscaping pavers, tile, etc
SELECT BURNER SHAPE & SIZE
The burner shape and size determine how the fire appears - its width, height and even the shape of the flame; how much gas it uses and how much warmth it produces. Our pre-assembled fire pit kits come with a burner of the ideal size and shape.
Rectangular gas fireplace kits offer a variety of burner styles and sizes.
CHOOSE HOW TO LIGHT THE FIRE
The technology you choose to use to light and control your fire pit flame is the most important decision in the design process.
Always choose a gas fire pit control system with FLAME RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY; this feature senses when the flame has gone out!
Always look for CSA or UL certification. Yes, the fire is outdoors but you need the peace of mind that comes with a safety certified control system!
- MATCH LIT SYSTEMS are just that - it's the simplest system that you light with a match; a manual knob allows adjustment of the flame height
- PUSH BUTTON SYSTEMS uses a standing pilot system; simply push one button to light the fire pit and the other to manually control flame height
- ELECTRONIC IGNITION is the ultimate in convenience; remotely ignite your gas fire pit using a wall switch, a remote control or even your cell phone
SELECT YOUR FINISHING MATERIAL
Your outdoor space is an extension of your home, literally becoming an outdoor room. The design will be more cohesive if you face your new fire pit with bricks that match your foundation or perhaps flagstones or stucco that use the colors in your siding or house trim.
